Parts of Normal

In quarantine, you forget
why you were friends in the first place
because everyone is Flat Stanley
and leaves you on read.

In quarantine, you make your bed,
because a mom on facebook
shared a video of a navy seal saying
that it makes you more eager
to do things

In quarantine, you call your coworker
about a banal work-related thing
and he says, oh, they didn’t tell you?
He is on the list of people mourning

In quarantine, you coughed four times
and self-isolated for fourteen days
Your professor on zoom
looks like most of her face
got stranded on a tropical island

In quarantine, you schedule a catch-up
and people say they are not available
and you know
They are masturbating

In quarantine, everyone is the same distance away

In quarantine, you’re not an artist.
You’re a maladapted extrovert who wants attention
You think you know which parts of normal are worth returning to –
which rapist do you prefer as president?
